POLICE say they have had no reports of a 'suspicious incident' relating to a fake unmarked patrol car in Andover.

Reports of a BMW driving around Andover with 'fake police lights' were posted across social media earlier today, with drivers being warned not to stop for the unmarked car.

The post suggested the driver of the BMW was pulling over lone drivers and attempting to enter their car.

However a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Andover Advertiser that police have no record of any 'suspicious incidents' in Andover relating to a fake patrol vehicle.

The spokesperson added that drivers who are pulled over and are unsure about the legitimacy of the person who stoped them should keep their doors locked and ask to see identification or a collar number.

Drivers who are still unsure should call 999 and ask the call operator to confirm the person's identification.
