HUNDREDS of people gathered in Andover’s Garden of Remembrance on Sunday to pay their respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

The Southern Jacobites Pipes and Drums headed a parade from Bridge Street to St Mary’s Church, where a Service of Remembrance was held around the cenotaph.

Soldiers from 22 Engineer Regiment, Royal British Legion flag bearers, cadets, scout groups, veterans and local dignitaries marched through the town before The Reverend Canon John Harkin gave the Act of Remembrance.

A bugler from Test Valley Brass Band sounded the Last Post before a two-minute silence at 11am which was brought to an end with Reveille and a fly past.

Mayor of Test Valley, Cllr Karen Hamilton and the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire led the wreath laying.

She said: “It was incredible to see the amount of people filling up the church and the streets for the service and parade.

“I feel strongly about remembering those that sacrificed their lives for us to have today and appreciate each day that we have.

“My thanks and respect go to everyone that took part, they did Andover proud.”
