A HIGH-FLYING couple have a spring in their step after displaying their new Easter-themed kite over the weekend.

Allan and Marilyn Pothecary, of Eardley Avenue, showed off their new Easter Bunny kite at Picket Twenty on Sunday.

The Close Encounters Kite Displays Team said they took advantage of the early summer weather to test their new kite.

Mr Pothecary said: “We just liked it, we thought we’d add it to our collection.

“It’s quite new to us and it’s good, it does need lifter kites, and I just thought it was quite fun.

“And if anyone was looking for a goalie over the weekend, they could use that.

“Target number one is to raise a smile.”

The former British Experienced Pairs Champions added they are looking forward to breaking the world record for the number of Trilobite kites flown at the same time.

With the help of kite flyers across the UK and Holland, they broke it at last year’s Portsmouth International Kite Festival in Portsmouth, with 21 kites.

Shortly afterwards, the American Kite Flyer’s Association contacted him to let him know they broke the record and claim to have flown 30.

Mr Pothecary added: “We now have four Trilobite kites ranging in size from seven to 32 metres.

“We took the event organisers and the big crowds by surprise as to what an awesome spectacle the mass-fly provided.

“We had a number of interested spectators during testing and a bit of flying for fun last weekend and we were pleased to lower the kites for photo shoots and selfies.”

The pair hope to break the record again at this year’s Portsmouth International Kite Festival on August 12 and 13.

If anyone sees the grandparents-of-two, they have said they are always pleased to offer advice on kite flying or even let people have a go for themselves.
