POLICE have launched an investigation after a door was "smashed" during a burglary at a Test Valley home.
Officers said a the front door of a house on Middlebridge Street, Romsey was smashed, which activated the alarm, on Monday between 1pm and 1.15pm.
The homeowners were not home at the time.
Two men were seen inside the house by a member of the public, who chased them as they ran away onto the A27/A3090 Bypass Road.
Police believe they escaped in a car parked behind the Three Tuns pub.
The first man has been described as a white male in his late 30s/early 40s and just under six feet tall of average build.
He was wearing a blue baseball and a blue tracksuit top with three white stripes on the sleeves, and was carrying a beige canvas bag.
The second man has been described as a white male in his mid 30s and slightly over six feet tall of average build.
He was wearing a white baseball cap and may also have been carrying a bag.
As this was lunchtime on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday, there were a number of people in the area and police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything unusual.

A 21-year-old man from Rowlands Castle and a 35-year-old man from Portsmouth were arrested in connection with this incident.
They have been released under investigation.
