A CHARITY football match raised thousands of pounds for a good cause.

On Saturday, 18 November Andover Town Youth Football Club held a charity football match at Andover Athletics Club to raise money for Children with Cancer, in an event organised by coach Steven Skillin and club chairman Simon Timms.

All current, and some former, coaches took part in the game with parents of youth team players coming along to support, with the match ending 5-1 to the blues team over the yellows.

Mr Skillin said: “I chose the charity as I have seen what cancer does to adults so could only imagine what it would be like for a child being that scared and in so much pain. So I wanted to try and do something to help them, as a youth club which is getting bigger by the year, it felt right to all do our bit for charity.”

The club thanked those involved and event sponsors Fireplace Warehouse for their support while early signs are over £2,000 has been raised via a Gofundme page, the club’s coaches and collections on the day.
