CREATIVE volunteers showed off their talents in a community art project.

Andover YMCA hosted an event at its centre in Dairy Road on Saturday with the aim to brighten up the reception of the new building which was opened in October last year.

The charity invited people to come and create a three dimensional collage with the help of Miranda Bryan of Happy Art Company with eight families taking part, painting large wooden discs for a colourful display celebrating community spirit.

Andover YMCA is the newest location to join the YMCA family, housing a purpose-built nursery and community facility, offering childcare and a place for community activities and programmes.

Sally Arscott, from Andover YMCA, said: “We hope to start a youth club and run even more community activities in the future.”

The YMCA will be seeking the help of children at Winton Community Academy and Endeavour Primary School to help them finish their community art project.

The charity will be visiting each school and holding art workshops to encourage the children to think about what community means to them, and to turn that idea into a piece of art which will make the empty wall space at the YMCA feel more community led.

To take part in this art project, the centre will be holding one more art day on Monday, 19 February from 10am.
