AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl had a get up and go moment running 10 miles around Andover for an animal charity.

“Determined” Ellana Woodthorpe, who lives in Penton, decided in March to organise a fundraising course for Blue Cross, bringing her love of animals and running together.

The South Wilts Grammar School girl organised the event on Sunday, 29 April “99 per cent by herself” according to her father Glenn, who was there along with Ellana’s mum, Lynn, and other family cheering her on the day.

Glenn said: “The only thing she had a bit of help with really was she had to have an adult with her.

“She was just so quick round it [the course] she wasn’t really even tired, the last mile I think she was starting to feel it. She did really well.”

Ellana designed her route which started in Penton, through to Charlton Lakes, Anton Lakes, through the town following the River Anton and further until she reached the Chestnut Tree pub in Weyhill Road.

Ellana said: “It was a great atmosphere I had family and friends at the finish line I was coming to the end and I was absolutely exhausted.

“I feel it was kind of a spur of the moment thing, I’m going to do this because it is something I have always cared about and I feel like I have done something to help.

“It was nice to feel I was doing something it wasn’t about how much I raised it was more about I was trying.

Ellana has exceeded her £100 target to around £400, and is hoping to reach £500. To donate, go to justgiving.com/fundraising/ellana-rescuerun.
