A YOUTH football team has benefited from world class training in a programme run in partnership with a famous club this school summer holiday.

Andover Town Youth FC learned like the pros in a five day training camp, part of clinic runs in association with Real Madrid.

The youngsters with technology used by the European champions’ first team, such as electronic tracking vests which record player’s match performance and tech balls that record shot speed and spin.

Out of the 40 young footballers taking part, Patrick McDonnell and Kian Timms were picked through electronic scores to attend a national final in London.

The match will be against other players from around the country, and finalists from that stage will be invited to play at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the home ground of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s official training academy will now be returning in a yearly venture to Andover for players from all clubs around the town to attend.

ATYFC chairman Simon Timms said: “It was amazing to have the academy coaches at ATYFC and be able to see all the electronic equipment used to record players.

“It was lovely to give the young players the opportunity to all of this, we are now going to sign up for this each season in the summer break to give other players from all clubs around Andover to have the same opportunities, it is a great partnership to have between ATYFC and Real Madrid.”
