PEOPLE behind a post office and convenience store in a village north of Andover have come up with an incredible and heart-warming cover of The Pogues' Fairytale of New York.

The hilarious song by Leslie and Tim Francis, who run the Enham Village Store & Post Office on Newbury Road, has won the hearts of all people in Enham and across the region.

In the video, Leslie and Tim are seen dancing with their staff Sue Hopkins and Gay Wood as they sing about who they are and how they feel about the festive season.

“It’s been massive since it went up two days ago,” Leslie told Advertiser, as she shared the story behind the video.

“We usually send cards to people in our village during Christmas. Last year, we did a video to cheer people up during Covid. We have a lot of vulnerable people in our village. We did the video so they know that they can call on us if there’s anything they need.

“It was very well-received. So, this year people started asking ‘are you going to do another one’. With the ongoing Covid, we thought everyone needs something to cheer for. That was the whole idea behind it.”

Since the start of the pandemic, Leslie and Tim have been helping the community in distributing food packages to people who could not get out of their homes.

They also wanted to cheer everyone up during a difficult period, and thus came the hilarious video.

The cover version of The Pogues' Fairytale of New York was written by Ann-Marie Haggar, an Enham resident.

She had helped the couple with last year’s video as well.

Both videos were filmed by James Cumpsty, another Enham resident.

“Last year it was particularly difficult to film the video because of Covid,” Leslie said.

“James was helping us with a green screen and we were filming individually on our own. This year we were able to film in the shop along with the green screen bits. Ann-Marie does our Facebook page as well.”

Although Enham has only 700 residents, the video shared on their Facebook page already has 14,000 views and more than 500 likes at the time of writing this report.

“The response has been amazing. Without exception everyone accepted that it made them laugh, while a couple of them cried watching the video because the message is heart-warming,” Leslie added.

Leslie and Tim have been living in Enham for the past 17 years. Ever since they set up their shop, it has been the hub for the community.
