A SMALLHOLDING is opening its gates to the public for an open day.

Local smallholding, Oaktrack, has announced that it will be joining hundreds of farmers across the UK as they open their gates to visitors for farming’s annual open day.

The open day will take place on Sunday, June 12, from 11am – 3pm.

The open day at Oaktrack will offer an opportunity for people of all ages to visit the smallholding.

This visit will provide attendees with a glimpse into the work the team does to produce food and manage the land in a healthy and sustainable way.

As well as hearing from the Oaktrack team, there will also be a number of hands-on interactive farm activities and demonstrations.

A barbecue and refreshments will enable visitors to sample Oaktrack produce, and the plant nursery and farm shop will be open throughout the day.

This national event, which is managed by the charity Linking Environment and Farming, will showcase farming’s commitment to producing nutritious food more sustainably.

This year the event will focus on health.

Oaktrack owner Tina Wells said: “The annual LEAF Open Days are a great way for farmers to engage with the public and provide an opportunity for people to learn more about how their food is produced.

“Oaktrack is really looking forward to participating in this national event and welcoming visitors to the farm again.

“The day promises to be a fun and fascinating day out for all.”

Oaktrack is a traditional, family run smallholding based in Charlton Down.

The small holding offers fresh meat, eggs, produce and plants that have been reared and grown on the farm.

The farm also produces handmade batches of seasonal preserves and traditional home baking using ingredients from its orchard and vegetable patches.

Open day event organiser LEAF is a charity that focuses on delivering more sustainable food and farming.

The organisation aims to inspire and enable more circular approaches to farming and food systems through integrated, regenerative and vibrant nature-based solutions by working with farmers, scientists and consumers.
