TRAIN strikes will resume this weekend after many planned actions were cancelled following the Queen’s death.

The new set of strikes starting on Saturday, October 1 will leave many services severely disrupted and only a limited service operating between 7.30am and 6.30pm.

Passengers should be aware that trains will start later in the morning, and the last trains will leave earlier than usual. Passengers are advised to find alternate methods of travel on these days and to only travel by train if absolutely necessary.

There will be no services on the majority of routes.  

12 rail companies represented by ASLEF will strike on Saturday, October 1 and Wednesday, October 5 and the RMT (Rail, Maritime and Transport union) and TSSA (Workers at the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association will join in the strike on Saturday. October 1.

Dates

Network Rail and Great Western Railway (GWR) services are affected. Strike action will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 1
  • Wednesday, October 5
  • Thursday, October 6
  • Friday, October 7
  • Saturday, October 8

When can tickets be used?

GWR is allowing those with tickets to travel on alternative days.

  • Tickets for travel on October 1 can be used on September 30, October 2, October 3, and October 4.
  • Tickets for travel on October 2 can be used on October 2, October 3, and October 4.
  • Tickets for travel on October 5 can be used on October 4, October 6, and October 7.
  • Tickets for travel on October 6 can be used on October 4, October 5, October 6, and October 7.
  • Tickets for travel on October 8 can be used on October 7, October 9, October 10, and October 11.

Refunds

Any customer who has already purchased tickets which are affected by strike days can amend their ticket or claim a full refund. Those who travel but who experience delays (15 minutes or more) may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation. Season-ticket holders can apply for compensation through the Delay Repay scheme.

It is also possible to claim a refund of the full unused fare if only one part of the journey is affected.
