GHOST and Ghouls are to be the topic of conversation as Christmas ghost stories are to be told in Andover.

Following a hugely successful tour of Ghost Stories for Christmas in 2021, people of Andover and surrounding villages will be spooked again this Christmas, with More Christmas Ghost Stories presented by Don’t Go into The Cellar Theatre Company. The UK’s finest practitioners of theatrical Victoriana. Travelling south from the West Midlands, artistic director Jonathan Goodwin has created this show, inspired by the ghoulish novels, and shows he loves.

A love of Edwardian and Victorian eras is evident in this show, with the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries serving as inspiration for this blend of horror, history, and humour.

Improvisation is a big feature of More Christmas Ghost Stories, particularly in relation to audience participation. The theatre companies use their skill in maintaining the correct language and idiom of the era when talking directly to the audience. Everyone is encouraged to turn off their mobile phones or leave them on at their peril! With no fourth wall, engaging actors will be interacting with audiences throughout. So everyone who enters should be ready for a frightfully good Christmas event!

With influence from the Hammer Studios movies of the 1950s and 60s, horror fans will be delighted to know that this show is full of the shadows, sounds and tropes of the symbolic films from yesteryear.

Don’t Go into The Cellar Theatre Company openly admit that their overarching aim is to restore what they call the “lost medium” of Victorian and Edwardian fiction through the medium of the theatre, with a focus on introducing new audiences to the classics.
