IT'S the old-fashioned pub with a modern twist, an enormous garden perfect for summer weather, and dog ice cream on the menu.

The George Inn, Middle Wallop, has a lot to offer with its quirky aesthetic and delicious menu.

Landlord Mark Routledge took the helm in 2020 and has brought his own unique flavour to the classic pub.Andover Advertiser:

Originally from Salisbury, Mark has had quite a life, travelling the world as a chef.

He said: "I've been a chef for years and years, and I've lived all over the world, in places like Australia, Japan and Mauritius."

The food on the menu is partially inspired by Mark's time abroad, but he makes sure to use "locally sourced produce where possible".Andover Advertiser:

From woodfire pizzas to avocado and poached eggs, the menu caters for everyone.

"Most of the meat we serve comes from Hampshire, the fish gets delivered from Salisbury and we even serve beer from Hopback Brewery, which isn't too far away."

On top of mainstream lagers, some of the locally sourced beers and ales on offer are Crop Circle and Tally Ho, from Dorset's Palmer's Brewery which are popular with patrons.Andover Advertiser:

"That's what the people want, we even get our coffee from Peaberry, who are based in Andover."

"It's a traditional, old-fashioned pub with a modern twist."

Dog ice cream is served at The George Inn, which Mark said: "They can't get enough of."

Entertainment-wise, The George Inn has a pool table and sports packages on the TV, the barn outside is also a very special asset.Andover Advertiser:

Mark said: "The barn is very unique, inside we host events like christening receptions and Halloween parties and it's even been turned into Santa's Grotto."

The pub hosts many popular events, on Saturdays, it hosts a breakfast club, while live music nights are also a hit every month.Andover Advertiser:

"Charity events such as 'Furs and Fangs' animal petting experience have been popular, and last September we held a charity event which raised £10,000 to help a local disabled girl."

Rooms are also available to book at the pub, there are six in total including two singles, three doubles and one family room.

A quirky pub located in the country, with its luscious pub garden and barbecue, The George Inn is certainly a great venue for a spot of summer lunch and a nice pint, and deservedly takes the title of Advertiser's Pub of the Month for May 2023.
