A man has been charged with drink driving after crashing a Mercedes outside a pub in Andover

Sam Hayward Green narrowly avoided the Hare And Hounds in Charlton Down in the early hours of May 20.

However, he collided with a sign and large planted urns at the front of the pub, causing damage to his car.

Rob Aiers, who has been landlord at the Hare and Hounds Charlton Down pub for a year, said he had heard the commotion from inside.

Rob and a neighbour quickly went outside to see the damage, and the car, a Mercedes, a further 50 yards down the road.

Police were called and upon arrival, breathalysed the man and took him away.

Rob said: "On one hand, I'm obviously very disappointed with the damage we have seen to the front of the pub in regards to the sign and the urns, but on the other hand, I'm happy to see him alive. With how close he travelled past the pub, it could have been so much worse."
