Two pubs in Andover have been recognised in Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)’s ‘Good Beer Guide 2024’.

The Andover Tap at the Lamb on Winchester Street and the Town Mills on Bridge Street have both been recognised in the guide.

The Andover Tap at the Lamb serves ‘real cider’ and ‘up to 12 beers’, according to CAMRA.

‘The Lamb dates from the 17th century and now houses a joint venture between Wessex Spirits and the Andover Tap with each occupying half of the building. The Tap serves up to 12 beers – four on handpump, four on gravity dispense and four membrane kegs – plus real cider’ says the description for the pub from CAMRA's guide.

Tim Abram, the pub’s owner is ‘delighted’ to be recognised.

He added: “We are of course delighted that the CAMRA Members think we are good enough to appear in the good beer guide for the fourth year running along with being the 2022 Cider pub of the year.

“It's great to know what you do is appreciated and we look forward to better things in the coming year.  We've also just started brewing our own beer here on-site, so the future is looking bright.”

The Town Mills on Bridge Street is described as a ‘historic mill’, with a good range of beers from UK brewery, Wadworth & Co.

‘Located in the town centre by the river Anton, this pub is in a historic mill with a working water wheel. There are several separate areas for dining and drinking including a comfy lounge upstairs. Pub games are played, and a popular quiz is held weekly. The landscaped riverside garden is popular in summer. Beers from the Wadworth & Co guest list are usually available.’ Describes the guide.

Town Mills landowners Pam and Pete Richards would like to thank their staff for the recognition ‘a big well done to them’.

They added: “We are obviously very pleased, we pride ourselves on our real ales, and we have a good real ale clientele, and we like to rotate our beers with guests and clientele.

“We are very pleased as well because it shows the rest of the team is looking out for the ales, so a big well done to them.”

Just 4,500 out of the nation’s 50,000 pubs are listed in the guide, all of which undergo a rigorous selection process to seek out and promote the finest outlets for real ale across the UK.

Nik Antona, CAMRA national chairman added: “The last few years have been an incredibly difficult time for the industry, and we need more support than ever before to keep our nation’s pubs open and thriving.

"I’d encourage everyone to use this year’s guide to visit the very best pubs across the UK and support them for generations to come.”

CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide is aimed at pubgoers interested in being served a good pint of real ale, as well as those who wish to find a welcoming local nearby.
