A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "The top storey of the car park is closed in preparation for jet washing to remove algae. If left untreated, it could create a slippery surface. It’s being cleaned this time next week and will re-open the following week.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause customers looking to park at the station, but it has been closed for their safety and the safety of our colleagues."

It is hoped the car park will be open fully after the work is carried out.
