HARD work by pupils and staff at two Andover schools was rewarded when an outdoor learning environment was officially opened.

A woodland walk, wild meadow area and two outdoor classrooms have been established in the grounds of Portway Infant and Junior Schools using funding from a BBC Breathing Places grant.

The outdoor area took two years to create and as well as providing a new and exciting area for pupils it will act as a community facility with opportunities to open it to the public on certain days. The schools are grateful to BTCV, Anton Rotary and Breathing Places as well as dozens of volunteers from the community as without their support the project would not have been completed.

“This is a wonderful environmental legacy for the school and community for the future,” said Barbara Rolison, headteacher of the infant school.

“I am very proud that by working together we have achieved something for this generation and those to come.”
