FIRE crews from Hampshire and Wiltshire are tackling a severe fire at Cholderton House, a Grade II* listed building in Cholderton.
Crews were called to the property at 7.22am today after initial reports of a fire in the sitting room.
It then became apparent that the blaze had spread to the roof, and it has now affected the top two floors of the house.
Twelve fire engines, from both Hampshire and Wiltshire, are currently in attendance at the scene - two from Salisbury, two from Andover, two from Warminster, and one each from Ludgershall, Wilton, Stockbridge, Pewsey, Marlborough and Melksham.
They are being supported by an incident command vehicle from Devizes and two water carriers, from Wilton and Ramsbury.
As well as tackling the fire, crews are also salvaging what they can from the property.
The two occupants of the house escaped uninjured.
Because of the scale of the incident, the A338 between Salisbury and Marlborough is currently closed.
