A FATHER-of-ten has been jailed after driving dangerously across Andover while intoxicated, disqualified from driving and serving a suspended sentence.

Stephen Mackie was jailed for two years when he appeared in Winchester Crown Court last week.

The court heard the 29-year-old admit to driving a black Volkswagen Golf along a route across the outskirts of the town between Viking Way and the A343 including Enham Arch Roundabout, Folly Roundabout and Saxon Way.

He further pleaded guilty to driving the same vehicle while nearly double the legal alcohol limit and failing to give a specimen for analysis during the incident in March.

The court also heard that Mackie, of Defiance Way, drove the car during a period of disqualification from driving and without insurance.

As previously reported by the Advertiser, Mackie was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 18 months, in August last year after pleading guilty to wielding a knife in public during an incident at Turin Court in which he had to be Tasered for his own safety.

Appearing in Winchester Crown Court again on Friday, he was sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison for the driving offences and an additional six months for breaching the original suspended sentence.

Mackie was also disqualified from driving for three years with a further extension of 12 months.

He is also required to take an extended test and his driving licence has been endorsed with six points.
