A DENE Court mushroom thief has been ordered to receive mental health treatment.
Douglas Peter Strike was sentenced to a community order requiring him to participate in a mental health programme after admitting to a number of thefts and assaults across Andover.
The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing a packet of mushrooms and a cheese snack stick from Marks & Spencer at the end of April when he appeared in Basingstoke Magistrates' Court recently.
He further admitted to stealing a bottle of whiskey from the High Street store three days later and to assaulting a man in Andover on the same day.
Following an incident at Asda on May 4, he pleaded guilty to damaging a trolley shelter and to engaging in abusive behaviour.
Strike went on to steal two bottles of wine from Iceland later last month and assaulted another man on the same occasion.
He was also sentenced for stealing a jacket from TK Maxx in Salisbury in November, assaulting a man in Salisbury on the same day and assaulting a woman at Wiltshire Police's divisional headquarters in Melksham.
No compensation was ordered due to the defendant's lack of means.
