A TOWN centre coffee shop has been targeted in an overnight burglary.

Police say £200 was stolen from Coffee#1 during a raid on the High Street cafe last night.

The incident is said to have taken place between 5pm yesterday evening and 5am this morning.

Police say the offender broke in through the front door before conducting an "untidy search" of the cafe's back office.

The cafe's manager, Matt Arnold, said the offender caused damage to the property but did not manage to access the safe.

He added that the £200 stolen was "petty cash".

Mr Arnold said: "We've had repairmen in this morning and we opened at 10am, which is a little later than usual.

"But we are now open as per usual."
