THE jury in the trial of a mother accused of the gross negligence manslaughter of an Andover veteran has been told they can return a majority verdict.

Malcolm Cox, 84, died in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital on November 16, 2016, after he hit his head on a ceramic plant pot and “catastrophically” bled on the hallway floor of his neighbour’s flat.

Izabela Dauti, aged 40 and of Bell Road, Andover, denies manslaughter after it is claimed that she owed Mr Cox a duty of care as she was his carer but breached that position by not calling for medical assistance.

The jury were sent out to retire at 3pm yesterday (Tuesday) but after nine and half hours of deliberation they informed Judge Jane Miller that they would not be able to reach a unanimous verdict.

Judge Miller has now granted the jury permission to return a majority verdict.
