Church spruced up for tree festival

A Romsey church launches its first Christmas tree festival this weekend.

All money raised at Romsey Methodist Church on Saturday will go towards the Syria Crisis Appeal.

Twenty groups have each contributed a Christmas tree for the festival, which they will decorate in their own styles.

The Worship on Wednesday roup's tree will be covered in spectacles as they are fundraising for RP Fighting Blindness.

Festival coordinator, Brian Spencer, a retired Methodist minister, said: “As far as I am aware this will be Romsey’s first Christmas tree festival. We wanted to bring the church and community groups together.”

Organisations taking part in the festival include George’s Trust, the Methodist Women’s Fellowship, Cupernham Junior School, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, Oxfam, the 1st Romsey Girls’ Brigade, Romsey Methodist Holiday Club, Oasis Christian Centre, Romsey Wesley Guild, Ladies that Lunch, Worship on Wednesday, Romsey Centre Pre-School, The Wives Group, On The Road, Wessex Cancer Trust, Fitzell Roberts School of Dance, 2nd Woodley and Crampmoor Brownies, Methodist Women in Britain, Art Studio and Romsey Methodist Church’s Funday Sunday club.

The festival is open tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 5pm and Sunday from 2pm until 5pm at the church in The Hundred.

Admission is free. Programmes are available for a donation.
