PARENTS and children flocked to Northington Farm last weekend to witness the start of the lambing season.

The yearly event, which is in aid of Lordsfield Swimming Club, took place on Saturday and Sunday when observers watched more than 50 newborn lambs taking their first tender steps into the world.

About 500 people attended the event, which also included a tombola, an Easter quiz and a refreshment stand filled with home-baked cakes.

In total, the event raised more than £1,600 for Lordsfield Swimming Club.

One of the organisers, Mindy Noble, said: “We had an absolutely great weekend and children and adults alike loved it.

“The kids and the adults seemed to be equally fascinated and everyone loved the chance to cuddle the lambs that were a few days old.

“We raised about £1,600 for the pool that is open to all children who live in Overton, so were really pleased with the result.

“Our hosts Mr and Mrs Crosbie Dawson were incredibly accommodating and we are very grateful to them for allowing us to run the event.

“Our thanks also go out to all our helpers and cake makers and the local Co-op as well as De La Rue for helping us put on the event.”

The group are now preparing for their summer re-opening which is planned to take place with a family swim session on May 23.
