NORTH West Hampshire MP Kit Malthouse visited the Whitchurch Silk Mill last week to meet members of Overton Choral Society and their special guests.
The recently elected MP met members of the village society and their German twin choir, Sangerkreis Euskirchen, who were visiting on an exchange trip.
Mr Malthouse wastreated to a rendition of Wie die hohen Sterne kreisen performed by the Euskirchen based group.
The two choirs then left the Silk Mill before visiting the Bombay Sapphire factory in Laverstoke Mill.
The weekend ended with a joint concert of Sacred Music on Saturday May 23 at St Mary’s Church in Overton, attended by over 50 people including Basingstoke and Deane’s new Deputy Mayor Cllr Jane Frankum.
Vice chair of the Overton Choral Society, Lyn Hardy, said: “It was lovely to take our German friends to these two very local industries.
"They found it really interesting.
“It was fantastic to end the trip with us singing all night.”
Asked what Mr Malthouse made of the event, Mrs Hardy replied: “He was impressed and he talked about how it important it was to have relationships between the two choirs andtwo countries.”
