Champion town A off to fine start in Basingstoke League

The opening salvos of the Basingstoke Summer Tennis League have started and in the men’s league defending champions Andover A posted a convincing 8-0 score against Waverley A.

In Division 2 Alex Lee and Al Williams were unbeaten for Andover B in their 6-2 win against Beechdown B. Overton B head Division 3 after two wins and a draw at Andover C. Nick Harris/Dave Thomas and Andrew Richardson/Mark Eastwood gave Mortimer A a great 8-0 win at Andover C.

Goodworth Clatford A team head ladies’ Division 1 after two wins and a draw in their opening matches.

Ros Horsell/Karen Causley and Sally Spencer/Helen Li beat their B team 8-0 with the other win being 6-2 against defending champions Beechdown A.

The draw was against Oakley. The Beechdown A team came back from the defeat at Goodworth with wins over Oakley A 5-3 and 8-0 against Goodworth Clatford B.

Old Basing A won 6-2 at Overton and Oakley A beat Goodworth Clatford B 7-1.

The Andover A team of Claire Coomer/Claire Reid and Andrea McMillan/Faye Fradeley beat Overton 8-0 in their opening match.

Mortimer recorded 8-0 results against Whitchurch and Beechdown B and the Andover B team of Lizzy Austin/Gilly Higgs and Jane Laborda/Caroline Tomlinson won at Old Basing B and then beat Totally Tennis B.

In the Mixed Division 1 defending champions Andover A opened with an 8-0 score at Overton A.
