THE past six months have proven to be a whirlwind of achievements and triumphs for the talented water polo players of Andover Swimming and Water Polo Club (ASWPC).

As the Hants junior league campaign concluded in early May, the team exhibited remarkable strength, securing a significant victory away to Portsmouth and landing an impressive seventh place overall – a commendable feat for a young and relatively inexperienced side.

In June, the team continued to make waves as they participated in the renowned Cheltenham Lido tournament, now a cherished annual tradition.

Despite facing formidable opponents, ASWPC managed two notable wins, culminating in a commendable sixth-place finish.

The momentum carried into the U16 inter-regional championships in Liverpool, where young athletes Abi M and Megan R, along with their teammates, displayed outstanding grit and determination, ultimately being crowned Inter-Regional Champions.

Further success unfolded in June as four players joined forces with Cheltenham for the Bristol & West Tournament at Millfield.

ASWPC's county representation remained strong, with Lucy P, Stanley A-S, and Alice R earning a Bronze medal in the U14 Mixed County Championships.

The momentum continued with Abi and Megan's selection for a mixed U16 County Tournament in November.

In September, five ASWPC athletes attended the National Talent Centre trials in Bristol, all successfully gaining selection.

Their journey involves monthly intensive training sessions, with aspirations to progress through the talent program and potentially represent their country in the future.

Lily Ross, a standout in the National Talent set-up for the past three years, experienced a career highlight in July at the U17 European Championships in Manisa, Turkey.

Describing it as "the best 10 days of my life," Lily has now joined the U19 Great Britain Squad, eyeing participation in the EU Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic this December and the U19 European Championships in Croatia next August.

As the team reflects on a stellar six months, anticipation builds for the upcoming period.

ASWPC players eagerly look forward to local friendly matches, Hants League fixtures, and the challenge of County and Regional Championships.

The next chapter promises to be equally busy and exciting for this dynamic water polo team, ready to continue making waves in the sport.
