Andover’s girl racer Dawn Boyd was back on circuit last weekend in deepest Norfolk and with the season drawing to a close every point counts. She currently stands fourth in class and seventh out of 45 overall, with further progression in her sights. Snetterton is a unique circuit with tight twisting corners linked by two very long, very fast straights and slip streaming plays a big part in success or failure.

Dawn improved her previous best lap time by a second in qualifying putting her eighth in class on the grid. After a four hour wait in the blazing sunshine, her race was the last of the day under a setting sun. She made a great start, overtaking three before the first corner but there was a spinner near the front and carnage ensued, with cars scattered in all directions to avoid further impact. The clean up was dealt with without the need for a red flag so the remaining drivers settled in for a good race. A few frantic laps in Dawn had fought had her way to fourth and reaching speeds of more than 110mph round the infamous Corum Curve, then hard onto the brakes for a tight chicane, she was hit from behind but managed to collect it together round the corner but others behind her were not so fortunate and spun off. Catching another car along the straight using the slip stream she passed him and she was through to third.

Her ever more excitable pit crew were jumping up and down which spurred her on and she held third for 2.5 laps until the slip stream worked against her, the car behind outbraked her into the S's, bounced off the curbs and he was through. Her efforts took her off the edge of the circuit at 110mph and back on and it was all down to the last corner of the last lap as both cars went into the chicane at full pelt and came out in the same order. It was a fight to the line, Dawn was catching but it wasn't quite a long enough run to the flag and she missed third place by just six feet.

This will go down in the books as the most exciting race with the best overall result of 13th out of 26 but Dawn is eagerly awaiting the last round at Brands Hatch in October to clinch a trophy before her season ends.

Dawn is still searching for corporate sponsorship to enable her to continue racing and hopes that this year's success can further improve into 2010.
