Stockbridge halted their bad run with a comprehensive 4-0 drubbing of bottom team Amesbury.

A fine all round performance was capped by four quality goals. Amesbury started brightly when Toni Camilleri outpaced the defence but his shot went agonisingly widebut the Robins held firm and with only eight minutes on the clock Stockbridge took the lead when Steve Witt’s vicious dipping shot from 25 yards gave the home keeper no chance. Soon after they took a 2-0 goal advantage when Dave Cotter lashed the ball home from 20 yards.

On 22 minutes Stockbridge went 3-0 ahead from a Witt pile-driver and a minute before half time Amesbury youngster Ollie Vines saw his shot saved by keeper Allan Ralph. Cotter nearly added another just before the break when he broke through but his shot drifted just past the post. Amesbury started the second half well and came close to scoring in a goalmouth scramble. After a break when a substitute linesman had to be found Cotter chased a long through ball and with great determination steered the ball past Danny Harrison.

Robins’ striker Mike Barker went close twice but was denied by great stops from Harrison. Five minutes from time a late flurry from Amesbury saw Finnigan’s shot parried by Ralph but Geoff Wells was unable to turn the rebound home. Stockbridge’s relieved manager, Stuart Thompson must have been pleased with the display of all his players with Lou Bain in the centre of midfield and Gavin Richards in the heart of the defence outstanding.
