The Hampshire GC Seniors were faced with very tricky decisions when faced with the annual “Three Clubs and a Putter” challenge on Saturday as they pondered over which clubs would do the job for them.

A few appeared to have made inspired decisions while others should start planning now for next year’s event as they obviously cannot cope with less than 14!

The format was medal stroke play and Bob Kidgell might have thought he stood a good chance of winning with his net 69 score, but incredibly there were three players who performed extremely well as they all returned a net score each of 66.

Barrie Thompson was fourth, Phil Jones third and seniors captain Ray Neath second but nobody could match the net 65 returned by John Davis and he was the thoroughly deserving winner of this annual event.

The Ladies also held their annual “irons only” event on Sunday which for some of them was a difficult format as they are generally used to hitting woods from the tee.

However, there will always be a winner and in first place with 31 points was Lori Channon and she just edged Julie Dixon into second place on count back, as she also finished with 31.

Ian Folkes, club captain in 2013, supported the Help for Heroes charity during his year in office and earlier this month he presented a cheque to the charity for £635.40.
