LAST week’s letter from county councillor Tony Hooke quoted £465,000 as a figure set aside in the council’s budget for the refurbishment of the Andover Magistrates’ Court.
There is no such figure. He has his facts wrong.
This sum was approved by council on 17 April and is actually for the refurbishment of the former magistrates’ court in Romsey, which will shortly be completed.
This will see the building become a community hub serving the people of Romsey in the heart of the town.
The funding is recorded in the minutes of that meeting.
Perhaps Cllr Hooke should check his facts before issuing a letter next time.
I note Richie Towerton’s letter on the same page encouraging local politicians to get on with the job rather than “battering” each other on the letters page of the paper.
Believe me I would be more than happy not to have to do so but I must correct such a blatant and highly misleading factual inaccuracy.
Councillor Ian Carr leader, Test Valley Borough Council
