I READ in your paper of a footpath for disabled users.

Hooray at last somewhere for wheelchairs to enjoy.

Not so though for the majority of wheelchair users – the footpath was from Enham to Andover – and although I applaud all the work done at Enham I also feel that the disabled people of Andover are forgotten.

The fantastic facilities at Enham are for the residents, but what about others? We live at Red Rice and my husband is confined to a wheelchair.

We often feel like prisoners in our own home. We feel that are unable to walk safely along the surrounding roads because many drivers appear to think that Red Rice is an extension of Thruxton race track with speeds often exceeding 60 miles an hour.

So imagine how vulnerable it feels to be a wheelchair user with cars coming at you at these speeds, especially if there is one coming the other way and the roads are only just two car widths wide.

Then if we do make it to the village we still can’t use the pavements, because in places they are very narrow and often have cars parked on them, forcing us once more into the path of the traffic.

So planners please remember that there are many other disabled people around Andover who would also like to be able to get around. And there must be many like ourselves who do not have the luxury of public transport which Enham also have.
