I WOULD request that you allow the following to be inserted into your paper’s letters columns as soon as possible, as I feel the voices of the majority are never heard through the media.
I refer to stories in the Advertiser dated September 11.
Whilst sympathising with anyone fleeing from tyranny, I feel that these readers are deluding themselves as to the present situation with refugees / migrants.
The people of this island have always been generous in the extreme to those in need, especially in foreign countries.
But it would be nice to know that for once, that people who wish to give aid to others, would think of our own people in need, such as the elderly who are alone, without anyone caring.
Also, the young who are so vulnerable, who are part of this country’s future, and live knowing no one cares. Perhaps these good folk could offer them sanctuary, or visits.
As to the lady from Romsey, I would say that living in Romsey is different to living in Andover. We are the people facing excessive house building, low infrastructure, no expansion of businesses for jobs.
