I FIND it difficult to follow all the ramifications regarding the issue of the closing of and subsequent demolition of the public conveniences at George Yard car park.
I feel I need a legal mind which I don’t possess.
Whether the council complied with government guidelines to the letter or not seems to me to miss the overriding point.
The council has removed a second, much needed facility, namely, a much valued toilet block. (The second block to be closed in the past two years).
And, moreover, in what does appear to be, unseemly haste!
The point is that Andover has a very large population, larger than that of Winchester.
I would plead again on behalf of some of us who, being older and / or less able need more than one public convenience just on one side of the town only.
I think to point us in the direction of a hostel that has ‘agreed that the public might use their facilities’ is unsatisfactory.
