OVER some years another member of the Andover History and Archaeological Society and myself have been assembling material intended for an in-depth article about Maud (Millicent) Sainsbury (née Clark) — 1897-1954.

Fondly known as Maudie she lived in Andover working in the music trade spanning a period from just before the First World War until her death.

As well as being involved in local entertainments, her contributions to all kinds of civic, voluntary and charity work were also immeasurable culminating in her becoming mayor in the early 1950s.

We would like to hear from anyone that may have any kind of family, personal or work connections or recollections of Mrs Sainsbury.

She worked for Andover music shops E Price, A D Robbins, Teague & King and from 1951 Sainsbury Fisher — a shared ownership with her husband Uvadale Sainsbury and Gilbert Fisher’s family.

Thank you in anticipation of anything you may be able to offer.
