I WAS surprised that old chum Derek Weeks did not include in his list of 60s jukebox favourites (Letters, June 1) our own Andover hit record ‘Baby’s Back In Town’, which was recorded and released on the Fontana label by the best band to come out of Andover in the 60s, Ten Feet Five.

The day before the recording session in London, we all assembled in a hair salon in Ludgershall where we rehearsed several numbers over and over again. We existed on crisps and coffee and coffee and crisps throughout the day!

Of the various numbers that we rehearsed that Sunday the track that was chosen to be released as the ‘A’ side of the band’s first record was written by yours truly. Lance Barrett, the group’s manager, rang me at work with the news and my feet never touched the ground.

The record went to the top of the charts here in Andover and was continually played on Radio Luxembourg. Another sparkling memory was sitting in my friend Barry Chants’ green Austin A40 and listening to it being played over the airwaves. His car had a radio!

Those long ago times were so exciting for all concerned, especially every Friday night when the packed venue, above the old Copper Kettle, resonated to the superb musical talents that the group were so renowned for.

As a matter of interest a copy of the record has recently changed hands for just over £50.

The group and I are still waiting for our royalties!
