IN THE letters about the pros and cons of Brexit, there has been a very large elephant in the room — the intended development of the EU, as the Brussels bosses have decided, into a tight-knit federation which some cynics already refer to as ‘The Fourth Reich’.

Some of them hope it will be powerful enough to attack Russia and extend the EU eastwards — “Perhaps as far as the Volga,” said one.

They also intend the eradication of the nation state, so if we don’t make good our escape from their crazy schemes there will be no more United Kingdom, and consequently no monarchy!

The Remainers such as Clarke, Cable, Clegg, Soubry, Umunna et al. who shuttle back and forth to Brussels to urge ever more hostility to our negotiators — haven`t they all taken an oath of allegiance?

Is this deliberate betrayal, or are they the EU`s ‘useful idiots’?

We might do well to revive our national anthem (while we still have one) with verse two being particularly apposite — “O Lord our God arise, Scatter Her enemies, And make them fall: Confound their politics, Frustrate their knavish tricks, On Thee our hopes we fix: God save us all.”

I don`t expect the BBC to include that in The Last Night of the Proms.
