I WAS only talking the other day about the old schoolboy sport of throwing the cricket ball.
I read that Salisbury’s own VC was good at sport and excelled at this particular one.
He was Tom Edwin Adlam VC, a temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Bedfordshire Regiment in 1916. His throwing meant that he could out-throw the enemy.
He led his men on two successive days going from shell hole to shell hole, was wounded on both days but managed to lead his men.
He also unveiled the First World War memorial in the Market Square. His actions led to far-reaching results.
