BACK in the spring / summer of 2015 at least three people in the Winchester Road / Old Winton Road area found chicken eggs when digging their gardens.
This was believed to be the work of a fox who had stolen them from a garden nearby where chickens were kept.
How clever of the fox to replace the soil to indicate no disturbance.
When I was about 13-yearsold I was stood on Carr’s Corner (junction of High Street and Newbury Street) one summer evening waiting to cross when a funeral type limousine approached from the Newbury direction with four young men inside dressed in black and they had a coffin lookalike fixed above the rear bumper.
I could see these chaps were out for a lark and I could not stop laughing; then one of them leaned out of the nearside front passenger window and told me to stop laughing or they would put me in the box.
I think they were from Stockbridge.
If the lights go out this winter don’t blame coal, gas, oil, wind, solar, atomic or wave power; blame previous governments for their short to medium term planning or lack thereof. I understand we are now proposing to subsidise companies building banks of dirty diesel generators (bought from China) as a backup to our normal supplies.
What strategic planning?
Further to my previous batty story I saw bees flying outside the Chantry Centre on 19 December. Is this a record for the time of year?
