I WOULD like to add my support to those expressing concern about the replacement Leisure Centre.
I had some slight involvement in the provision of the current centre in the early 1970s when, from memory, Andover’s population was about 18,000. It is now well over twice that number and growing.
We may not be able to fund a Romsey Rapids scale of a pool but surely any replacement should be bigger and better than in the existing building. To provide a pool smaller than the present one and with no three-metre depth at one end is ignoring the views of the public the council were elected to serve.
The same comments apply to the ‘dry side’. If we want to encourage the public to take exercise to improve their fitness and health we should be increasing the provision of courts etc and not reducing them.
