I WOULD like to make a public thank you to all those who have been involved in upgrading the footpath from Millway House Nursing Home to the Weyhill Roundabout.

Neglected for many years, the pavements in this area have been almost impassable for anyone other than cyclists with the narrowest of wheels.

Even single file pedestrians have found walking hazardous, let alone those pushing buggies and wheelchairs.

Now, thanks to the many protestations from locals, and other concerned members of the public, the path has been relaid and what a wonderful difference it has made.

I am particularly grateful to Cllr Zilliah Brooks, who has continued to lobby Hampshire County Council and the Highways authority and finally achieved this goal.

Although much more still needs to be done in the vicinity I feel we have reached a point where congratulations are due all round to those who actually completed the work. Well done.

My disabled 93-year-old mother is a resident of Millway House and can now be wheeled all the way to the Weyhill Fair to look at the shops and have a coffee and enjoy her monthly organ recital at the village hall.

We can get to the bus stop and take rides into Andover and to the local pubs for lunch.

We will also be getting back to our litter picking duties along the path to clear up what has been discarded by thoughtless others, and look forward to the arrival of lambs in the field close by in the spring.

A breath of fresh air that does her the world of good and which was previously impossible due to the state of the footpath.
