A NEW motor-powered wheelchair has been donated to Andover hospital, thanks to a generous donation.

The new wheelchair was presented to the hospital on Wednesday, December 20 by Hampshire Medical Fund following a donation by Anton Rotary Club of more than £4,000.

As Anton Rotary club president in 2023, Gary Adams has the honour of nominating a president's charity.

On a random visit to the hospital, Gary saw an item bearing a plaque saying 'Donated by Friends of Andover Hospital'.

Gary contacted the Friends, which has since become Hampshire Medical Fund, and offered them a donation based on the purchase of a specific item, to which they suggested a motor-powered bariatric wheelchair.

The donation was subsequently approved and the wheelchair was ordered, ready for use at Andover hospital.

Hampshire Medical Fund charity director, Lucy Liddell, said: "We are so thrilled to be able to present this wheelchair to Andover hospital, and know how much use and what a difference it will make to so many people who may need to use it.

"We work to raise money through a variety of different events throughout the year, and each year the hospitals in our trust compile a list of items they would like to acquire. I'm very happy to say that this wheelchair is one of the last items on the list for 2023.

"We're over the moon and looking forward to getting more funds raised in 2024 to continue to supply our trust, and aid in providing the resources they need to provide outstanding care in the area."

Gary said: "We’re pleased to be able to make this donation to Hampshire Medical Fund to donate to the hospital.

"We are a local organisation that does community service and charity fundraising, and making this donation has been great. We’ve donated to the hospice several times in the past, but being able to help our local hospital is a great opportunity for us which we're more than happy to do.

"We are currently collecting for Andover Young Carers outside Tesco in Andover, and also provide international help as and when we can, but generally focus on the local area, including charities, so we are thrilled to have done our bit."
